Team Leaders

Barend Venter, CEO

In 2008, Barend Venter co-founded BPi after initiating the 3.6 MW DC solar project at Fosters Group wineries. Venter’s background is one of diversified interests and hands-on corporate experience, leading to a thorough understanding of industry and financial packaging of value. Venter holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Strategic Management Business Diploma from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. His hands-on engineering foundation in mechanical, electric, civil, structural and thermodynamics was laid when he was Technical Manager of the largest textile mill in Southern Africa. Venter was responsible for design and maintenance on all projects, safety programs, substations, monitoring of energy for optimal efficiency of equipment, production lines, and buildings. In 2007, he joined The Bright Group in Napa, California, after selling 50% of his shares in his South African company, iGrade Holdings – which focused on specialized software applications, building value for corporations like Pfizer Pharmaceutical, Johnson & Johnson, DaimlerChrysler, BMW, TV Guide, Accenture and Sapient. With BPi, Venter combines experience with vision to achieve prosperity for all partners and clients.

Brian Peterson, President

Brian Peterson co-founded BPi in 2008 after running his own construction company, SeaTech since 2003. Peterson holds a General Engineering “A” and “C-10” Electrical Contractor License. This expertise enables BPi to engineer and construct not just solar systems but powerhouses, power plants, and other utility plants. Peterson is responsible for constructing and maintaining approximately 428 MW of electrical generation for gas turbines, steam turbines, recital engines and solar systems for major corporations including Mitsubishi Power Systems, Baxter Bioscience, City of Inglewood PWD Water Facility, Baxter Healthcare Corp., Gas Recovery Systems Inc, Inland Empire Utilities Agency, AES Power Plant Generator upgrade, Allergan Utilities Installation, Validation and Bayer.

Kevin Berryhill, COO

Berryhill holds a MS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a BS degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He started his career as a Bridge Engineer with the California Department of Transportation Division of Structure Construction where he worked the 105/110 Interchange. Berryhill later worked at the City of Westminster Community Development Department where he managed the Development Review Engineering Staff and served as the Senior Project Manager for large scale Capital Improvement Projects including but not limited to an 18 Hole Championship Golf Course and Club House. He joined Koll Development as a Senior Project manager for the development of a 70 acre, 450,000 square foot, $100 million mixed-use commercial center. At Richmond American Homes of Colorado he managed the design and construction of eleven subdivisions with a total project budget exceeding $65 million. In 2001, Berryhill started Berryhill Development, Inc., a real estate development company focusing on mixed-use downtown redevelopments, data centers, and medical/ office development projects. He most recently held the position of Assistant Public Works Director/ City Engineer at the City of Fairfield where he was responsible for a $125 million Capital Improvement Program, Development Review, Traffic Engineering, Construction Inspection and the operation of two golf courses. Currently, Berryhill serves as the Chief Operating Officer for BPi, where he is responsible for day-to-day operations of the design, procurement and construction for BPi’s solar installations. Berryhill’s expertise as a project executive and managing the design and construction of over $500 million in infrastructure over the past 27 years is now focused in solar and renewable energy power generation.

Kelly Wallace, Legal Counsel

Wallace brings extensive experience in the construction industry in both management and legal aspects of the industry. In project and corporate management he supervised construction projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars. As a consultant supporting construction dispute resolution, Wallace presented at numerous seminars and mediations as well as testifying at arbitrations and trials. As an attorney, he incorporates his widespread practical construction experience into his law practice to provide BPi knowledgeable contract negotiation skills and expert legal advice that guides the team through successful projects.
